September 29, 2023Los Angeles, CA - August 28, 2023 - The Hollywood Critics Association has announced today that it will become the Hollywood Creative Alliance (HCA) as part of a recent organizational restructuring. The HCA restructuring was done with the assistance of Corporate Operation Strategist Leslie Short of The Cavu Group. The newly formed 501 c6 membership-based non-profit organization will be the first to include critics, entertainment journalists, content creators, industry influencers, and creatives in its overall membership.
The vision and mission of the HCA is to amplify diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and culture within the world of entertainment. HCA believes in creating a culture where representation is a critical component to the evolution of the entertainment industry.
We Live Entertainment’s Scott Menzel will serve as the organization’s CEO/President, ABS-CBN’s Yong Chavez will serve as Vice-Chair, Black Girl Nerds’ Jeandra LeBeauf will serve as the Head of Member Engagement, Cinemacy’s Morgan Rojas will serve as Secretary, and Louis Valentine, an external CPA, will serve as Treasurer.
The organization’s expansion will include year-round content featuring the launch of a new website, an official magazine, conversation and screening series, FYC events, podcasts, after-shows, and other industry and consumer-focused in-person and virtual events. HCA Award ceremonies will return as well.
Current members of the HCA will be able to apply to part of a series of yearly committees that include Membership/Culture, In-House Content, Events, a Creative Arts Nominating Committee, a Film Committee for Shortlists, and a Television Nomination Committee. In addition to member-driven committees, the HCA will have a new Advisory Committee, which will include several industry insiders who will serve as advocates and ambassadors while keeping the organization's vision, mission, and focus a priority.
All current and new HCA members will receive a member handbook containing a list of rules & requirements and a code of conduct that must be signed and agreed upon to be a member of the organization. The handbook will also include a full breakdown of the leadership team, current and planned committees, voting procedures, membership opportunities, and an annual events calendar.
“Over the past several years, the industry has been faced with a series of ongoing challenges that have and will continue to change the industry as we know it,” notes HCA President and CEO Scott Menzel. “As a younger organization, a decision was made to re-establish and expand the HCA to better reflect its membership and vision for the future. With a new leadership team, new guidelines, and the proper formation now in place, the newly restructured H.C.A. will now expand beyond being a critics organization. We hope to create original content and programs to educate, entertain, and inspire those associated with the industry and worldwide audiences.”
The current slate of HCA Awards ceremonies will become part of the newly formed Hollywood Creative Alliance. The organization will continue to host the three annual award shows celebrating the Creative Arts, Film, and Television. The recently postponed HCA TV Awards will occur on January 8, 2024. The HCA Film Awards is currently scheduled for January 6, 2024, and the HCA Creative Awards on February 26, 2024.
A document containing all important information regarding the organization, including a yearly event calendar, will be shared with studios, networks, and PR companies.
